Matunda is produced by a cooperative involving a large number of farmers, founded in 2009 and supported by the government to respond to the needs of Kenyan coffee farmers to have more control over marketing and their own production in order to obtain higher net yields and to address various challenges faced by the coffee sector related to production, quality, marketing and value addition to coffee.
The coffee-growing region is located north of the capital of Kenya, with an estimated population of 695,558 inhabitants and an area of 3,3371.1 km² has 7 Coffee Districts that are home to more than 78,000 families that cultivate more than 12,480 hectares of Arabica coffee of the SL28, K7, Ruiru11 and Batian varietals, Nyeri is the 2nd largest coffee growing region in the country.
